Hi, I’m your CAA

Quinnie Do — IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent

I founded Fingerscan Digital in 2020 to give Bay Area families a trusted local place for IRS services — no mailing passports, no chasing the IRS.

As an IRS-approved Certifying Acceptance Agent, I verify your passport in person, prepare your W-7 with Certificate of Accuracy, and submit to the IRS Austin ITIN unit. Your originals stay with you. I personally handle every first-time ITIN application — foreign spouses under §6013(g), dependents, F-1/J-1 students with 1042-S, and IRS exception cases.

What is an ITIN

A federal tax ID
for filers without an SSN

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number is a nine-digit IRS number for people who can’t get a Social Security Number but must meet US tax filing requirements. It’s used on federal returns and required for the foreign spouse and dependents claimed on a joint or head-of-household return. IRS ITIN overview.

If you’re searching for an ITIN application near me, an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent San Jose authenticates your passport in office, reviews your Form W-7, and submits a Certificate of Accuracy — original never leaves the office. Our sister office TruPoint Legal handles disability and legal-document needs.

How it works

Four steps from walk-in
to mailed application

About 30 minutes total. You leave with your passport, W-7 copy, and tracking receipt.

1

Book and bring documents

Schedule online or by phone. Bring your unexpired passport (or two acceptable secondary IDs) and the federal return your ITIN attaches to.

2

Verify ID in office

As your CAA we authenticate your passport on site and prepare a Certificate of Accuracy — original never leaves your hands.

3

Prepare and sign W-7

We complete Form W-7, choose the correct reason box for your case, attach your return, and review every line before signing.

4

Mail to IRS Austin

We mail with tracking. The IRS typically issues your number in 7-11 weeks — longer during filing season.

What to bring

Your ITIN checklist
for every person applying

Bring originals. Our Certifying Acceptance Agent examines them in person, makes certified copies and returns your originals before you leave.

Your passport is a stand-alone document. A valid, unexpired passport proves both identity and foreign status, so you need nothing else for ID. Quinnie examines it, makes a certified copy and sends that copy to the IRS with your W-7 and the tax return you provide. Your passport never leaves our office.

Frequently asked

Common ITIN application
questions, answered

Is there a certified acceptance agent near me in San Jose?
Yes. Quinnie Do at Fingerscan Digital is an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent — the official IRS title for what many people search as a “certified acceptance agent” — at 434 Blossom Hill Road in San Jose. We verify your passport in the office and prepare your Form W-7, and you keep your original documents. Walk in Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM.
Do I have to mail my original passport to the IRS for an ITIN?
Not when you apply through a Certifying Acceptance Agent. The IRS normally requires your original passport to be mailed to Austin with Form W-7, where it can sit for weeks. As a CAA, Quinnie Do verifies the passport in person at our San Jose office and certifies it on the application, so the original never leaves your hands.
What is the difference between a Certifying Acceptance Agent and an Acceptance Agent?
A Certifying Acceptance Agent can authenticate your identification documents so you keep the originals. A plain Acceptance Agent cannot — your passport still has to be mailed to the IRS. Fingerscan Digital Inc. holds a Certifying Acceptance Agent agreement with the IRS, so your passport is verified at our office and stays with you.
How can I verify you are a real IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent?
Check the IRS’s own published list. Fingerscan Digital Inc. appears on the IRS Acceptance Agents — California directory at 434 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose. Our Certifying Acceptance Agent agreement with the IRS took effect May 5, 2026, and we will show you the executed agreement in the office on request.
Do I qualify for an ITIN?
If you have a US tax filing requirement and aren’t eligible for a Social Security Number, you qualify. Common cases: foreign spouses on a joint return (§6013(g)), dependents on a US return, and F-1/J-1 students with 1042-S withholding.
How long does it take to get an ITIN?
Processing typically runs seven to eleven weeks from when the IRS receives the packet. Filing season (January-April) and incomplete documentation are common causes of delays. We mail with tracking.
Can I get an ITIN to open a US bank account?
Generally no. Per current IRS rules, opening a bank account is not on its own a qualifying reason. The W-7 requires a federal tax purpose — a return, IRS exception, treaty claim, or third-party reporting.
I already filled out my W-7. Is the ITIN fee still $325?
Yes. The fee is $325 whether we prepare your W-7 or you bring one already completed. The real work is the review: we check every document and every line against what the IRS requires, which is what keeps your application from being rejected. Once we verify your documents and sign the Certificate of Accuracy, IRS rules require us, as your Certifying Acceptance Agent, to mail the application to the IRS ourselves. We don’t offer a lower verification-only price.
Can my spouse and dependents apply at the same visit?
Yes. Family applications are common — especially §6013(g) joint return filers. Each applicant needs their own ID and signs their own W-7. One or two applicants pay $325 each; for a family of 3 or more, each person after the primary is $275. One caveat for dependents: we can authenticate a dependent passport or birth certificate, but any other dependent document has to go to the IRS as an original or an issuing-agency certified copy.
Do I need to file a tax return with my W-7?
In most cases yes. The IRS only issues an ITIN when there’s a federal tax purpose, so a current-year return is normally attached. Exceptions: treaty benefits, 1042-S, 8288-A, and specific third-party reporting. If we prepare that return at the same visit, you save $50 on the combined service. See personal tax preparation.
