A voided application or a rejected print is not a small delay — it is weeks or months added to a license that already takes six to nine months. Each risk below names the rule and the consequence.
The 90-day fingerprint window missed
The Request for Live Scan Service form must be returned to CSLB within 90 days of the packet date. Miss it and the application can be deemed abandoned and voided — you reapply and pay the fee again.
Name or SSN not matching the CSLB record
If the name or social security number is not entered exactly as CSLB holds it, the submission does not match the posted application and bounces back. The prints must be re-rolled and re-sent, pushing the file back.
A print rejected for quality
A poor-quality capture is rejected. A second rejection triggers a DOJ and FBI name check, which is a lengthy process — a clean first capture is the fastest path to a posted clearance.
A new qualifier not cleared in time
When an RMO or RME leaves, a replacement must be in place within 90 days or the license is automatically suspended. The new qualifier cannot be approved until DOJ and FBI results return, so the fingerprints cannot wait.

Every CSLB license applicant, plus each officer, partner, owner, and responsible managing employee on the application, and home improvement salesperson applicants, must submit a full set of Live Scan fingerprints to the California DOJ and FBI for a criminal-history check (Business and Professions Code §144, §7069, and §7153.1). Currently licensed individuals not changing their license, and joint-venture applicants, are not required to re-fingerprint.
