What each Live Scan fee pays for
Your Live Scan cost has up to four parts. Only one is ours, and it stays $40 whatever your form asks for. The rest goes to the agencies that run your check.

What is a rolling fee for Live Scan fingerprinting?
The rolling fee is what a Live Scan site charges to capture your fingerprints and send them to the California DOJ. Each site sets its own, and ours is $40. It is separate from the DOJ and FBI processing fees.
Why do I pay the DOJ and FBI fees at the Live Scan office?
The DOJ collects its processing fees through the Live Scan site when your prints are submitted. The $32 DOJ fee and $17 FBI fee are the same at every California Live Scan site, and we pass them through without markup.
Does my employer pay the Live Scan fees if my form has a billing number?
Yes. A billing number means the DOJ bills your employer or agency for the government fees, and you pay only the $40 rolling fee. Ask your employer whether they also reimburse the rolling fee.
What other state fees can be added to a Live Scan?
Some licenses and jobs require extra checks. Roles working with children may need a Child Abuse Central Index check, which adds $15, and some permits add a firearms eligibility fee. We show any added fee before you pay.
Is Fingerscan Digital a government office or part of the DOJ?
No. Fingerscan Digital Inc. is a privately owned Live Scan site certified by the California DOJ (FPC54109). We capture and submit your prints, and the DOJ and FBI run the check and send results to your agency.
Can I walk in for a Live Scan without an appointment?
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM, at 434 Blossom Hill Road in San Jose. You can also book a time online if you prefer.
What payment methods do you accept for Live Scan fees?
We accept cash, credit cards, and debit cards. You pay the rolling fee and any government fees together at your visit.
