Apostille Services in San Jose
California Document Authentication

Looking for apostille services near me in San Jose? Fingerscan Digital is a walk-in apostille office in San Jose serving Santa Clara County and Silicon Valley — Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View, Milpitas, Campbell, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill and Gilroy. California documents start at $85 for standard processing, and same-day apostille is $450 when you drop off by 10 AM. We authenticate both state and federal documents for the 130 Hague Convention countries, add ATA-certified translation in any language, and serve you in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. No appointment needed.

Most apostilles are not refused because of the seal. They are refused because of something earlier — a photocopy where a certified copy was needed, a translation done in the wrong order, or a federal document sent to a state office. One mistake costs weeks, and a consulate appointment or a wedding date rarely waits. Bring the document in and we check it before it goes anywhere.

A walk-in San Jose office with a guaranteed 6 PM pickup on same-day orders. Drop off by 10 AM, walk out with the completed original by 6 PM. ATA-certified translation available as an add-on, ready in 3-5 hours.

What is an apostille?

Hague Convention authentication for international documents

An apostille is a single-step certification issued under the 1961 Hague Convention verifying a document’s signature, seal, and signing official. Once authenticated, your original is recognized in any of the 130 contracting parties — no embassy attestation required.

California-issued records are sealed by the California Secretary of State; federal documents like FBI checks and USCIS records go through the U.S. Department of State. We hand-deliver both routes from one San Jose office.

Whether it’s same-day service for a flight tomorrow or standard turnaround, you deal with one office, one person, and walk out with a document recognized worldwide.

Pick the speed your deadline needs

Four turnaround options on the same document. The California $20-per-document state fee is included in every tier.

Standard
$85
30+ business days

Our lowest price. The right choice when there is no fixed deadline and the document can wait in the state queue.

Two week
$200
About two weeks

Enough room for a consulate appointment or visa filing booked a few weeks ahead.

Five day
$350
Five business days

For a deadline inside a fortnight, where same-day is faster than you actually need.

Same day
$450
Drop 10 AM, collect 6 PM

Documents in by 10 AM leave sealed the same evening. We confirm eligibility before taking the order.

Which tier is actually right for you. The four speeds exist because deadlines differ, not because anyone should pay more than they need to. If your appointment, wedding or filing date is weeks or months out, take the standard tier — the seal is identical, and paying for speed you do not need is money wasted. If you are holding a consulate appointment this month, a contract start date, or a hearing, that is what expedited and same-day are for, and the faster tiers exist precisely so a deadline does not slip. Tell us the date when you call and we will tell you the cheapest tier that still makes it — including when the answer is the $85 one.

Prices are per document for California-issued records. FBI background check apostille is priced separately because it is authenticated by the U.S. Department of State rather than the state of California — $200 for six weeks, $350 expedited, or $450 expedited with fingerprinting included. Call (408) 766-3528 if you are not sure which route your document takes.

Every California county accepted

Apostille services in San Jose for documents from any California county

A California apostille is issued by the California Secretary of State for documents issued or notarized in California: birth, marriage and death certificates from any county recorder or the California Department of Public Health, certified court records such as divorce decrees, notarized documents and corporate records. The county that issued the record does not matter. A certificate from Los Angeles, Sacramento or San Diego County is authenticated the same way as one from Santa Clara County.

Walk in to our San Jose office from anywhere in Silicon Valley — Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View, Milpitas, Campbell, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Same-day service is available when your document reaches us by 10 AM. If you cannot come in, you can mail your certified originals and we return the sealed documents — see California apostille from out of state if you now live in another state. Nevada-issued documents go to the Nevada Secretary of State — see Nevada apostille. Standard service starts at $85, with faster tiers shown in the pricing above. For federal documents such as an FBI background check, see our FBI background check apostille service.

Where we serve

Apostille service across Silicon Valley

Our office is at 434 Blossom Hill Road in South San Jose, on the Highway 85 corridor. Everything below is close enough to make the 10 AM cutoff if you choose same-day service.

Mountain View

Highway 85 runs straight from Mountain View to our end of San Jose, which makes the same-day tier realistic: documents in by 10 AM, sealed original back by 6 PM. See our Mountain View apostille page for the full picture.

Palo Alto

We notarize and apostille powers of attorney in the same visit, so the document leaves finished rather than going back and forth between offices. See our Palo Alto apostille page for details.

Sunnyvale

Certified California vital records, including birth and marriage certificates. If you bring the certified copy, it can usually go out the same day.

Cupertino

Diplomas, transcripts and other education documents. Where the destination country requires a translation, we arrange certified translation alongside the apostille.

Santa Clara County

County-issued records from the Santa Clara County Clerk-Recorder. Bring the certified copy and we handle the authentication from there.

Los Gatos & Saratoga

Both are a short run down the same 85 corridor, and both comfortably make the 10 AM cutoff if you are working to a consulate or travel deadline.

Outside Silicon Valley? For the East Bay and further afield you have two options: drive down and drop the documents off in person, or book mobile apostille pickup — we collect the documents, handle the authentication, and return them to you, for a travel fee based on distance. Call (408) 766-3528 and we will quote it before you commit.

Apostille FAQ

San Jose apostille questions, answered

Is there a same-day apostille service near me?
If you are anywhere in the South Bay, yes. Our San Jose office is the nearest walk-in counter offering same-day California apostille: drop off by 10 AM and collect the sealed original by 6 PM, $450 per document. If your deadline allows more time, five-day service is $350, two-week is $200, and standard 30+ business days is $85. Federal documents such as FBI background checks go through the U.S. Department of State instead and cannot be done same-day — those run 9 business days when the document is in our office by Wednesday (12 business days if it arrives after Wednesday) on the expedited track.
Do you serve Mountain View and the rest of Silicon Valley?
Yes. We are on the Highway 85 corridor in South San Jose, which puts Mountain View, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Los Gatos and Saratoga inside the same-day window. For the East Bay you can drop documents off in person, or book mobile pickup and return for a travel fee based on distance.
How long does it take to get an apostille in California?
By mail through the Secretary of State it usually takes about four to six weeks. In our San Jose office you can choose standard in about 30 days, expedited in two weeks, rush in 3 to 5 days, or same-day — drop off by 10 AM and pick up the authenticated original by 6 PM.
Can you apostille my birth certificate, marriage certificate, or diploma?
Yes — we authenticate California birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, diplomas, transcripts, powers of attorney, and corporate documents. If your document is in another language, we can add ATA-certified translation for an additional fee so everything is authenticated together.
How do I get an FBI background check apostilled for use abroad?
We fingerprint you in-house and handle the FBI report’s federal apostille through the U.S. Department of State, so you never mail anything to Washington yourself. The combined FBI report and authentication bundle takes 9 business days when your document is in our office by Wednesday (12 business days if it arrives after Wednesday).
Do you offer apostille for Mexico, Italy, or dual citizenship?
Yes — we prepare authentications for Mexico, Italy, Spain, Korea, the Philippines, and the 130 Hague Convention countries — including Vietnam, which joined on 11 September 2026. For the remaining non-Hague countries such as the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait, we handle embassy legalization instead.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in for an apostille?
Walk-ins are welcome Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM. Book online to lock in a time, or ask about mobile service that comes to your home or office across the South Bay.
How much does an apostille cost in San Jose?
California apostille runs on four speeds: $85 for standard processing in 30+ business days, $200 for about two weeks, $350 for five business days, and $450 for same-day when the document reaches us by 10 AM. The California $20-per-document state fee is included in every tier. FBI apostille is priced separately at $200 to $450. The seal is identical at every speed — you are paying for the calendar, not a better document.
Which tier do I actually need?
Tell us the date the receiving office needs it and we will name the cheapest tier that still makes it — including when that answer is the $85 one. Paying for speed you do not need is money wasted, and we would rather quote you the lower tier and be right than the higher one and be safe.
What actually gets an apostille refused?
Almost never the seal itself. Three things cause most refusals: a photocopy where a certified copy was needed, notarial wording that does not meet California requirements, or a translation attached before the seal instead of after. A refused document comes back without an explanation, so most people only learn which mistake they made when the office abroad rejects it — by which time the deadline has moved.
My document was refused. Can you tell me why?
Usually. Bring the document and any notice that came with it and we will identify the cause before you pay for anything. Sometimes it is fixable; sometimes the underlying record has to be reordered, and you are better off knowing which.
Can you apostille a document issued in another country?
No. A California apostille only goes on a document issued by a California authority. A Mexican acta, a Philippine PSA record, a Chinese degree or a Vietnamese certificate is authenticated in that country, under their own process. What we seal are your U.S. records.
Does an apostille expire?
The apostille itself carries no expiry date, but the office receiving it may require the underlying record to be recent — often within three or six months. A new seal on an old certificate does not restart that clock. Check the age requirement with the receiving office before ordering.
Do I need a translation, and in what order?
It depends on the destination. Where one is required the order is fixed: apostille first, translate second, because a translation attached beforehand is not covered by the seal. Some countries also require the translator to be registered there rather than here, so ask the receiving office before paying for either.
Can you notarize it here as well?
Yes, in the same visit. An affidavit or power of attorney has to be notarized before it can be apostilled, and the notarial block is one of the three things that gets documents refused. Doing both steps in one office removes that risk.
Can I mail my documents in?
Yes. Send the certified originals to our San Jose office and we return the sealed documents. Same-day is the exception, since it depends on the document physically reaching us by 10 AM. A power of attorney is also an exception, because it has to be signed in front of the notary.
Where can I find apostille services near me in San Jose?
At 434 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose, open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM with free parking. Walk in with your certified document and photo ID, no appointment needed. If you arrive by 10 AM we can seal it the same day. Call (408) 766-3528 first if you want us to confirm your document qualifies before you drive over.
Do you offer an expedited apostille service?
Yes. Choose standard from $85, or a faster tier when a consulate or closing date is fixed. Same-day service is available on eligible California documents submitted by 10 AM. Tell us your deadline and we will name the cheapest tier that still makes it.
Does it matter which California county my document came from?
No. The California Secretary of State apostilles certified records from every California county, so a birth certificate from Los Angeles or San Diego County is handled the same way as one from Santa Clara County. Documents issued by another state must be apostilled by that state instead.
How do I know if my country needs an apostille or legalization?
Tell us the destination. The 130 Hague Convention countries take an apostille; the remaining few need consular legalization, which is a longer chain. The list moves — China joined in 2023 and Vietnam in September 2026 — so older guidance is worth double-checking before you rely on it.
I have several documents. Is it cheaper together?
Yes, on every tier except the $85 standard one. Above standard, each additional document is 50% off, so a second or third document costs half the tier price. Doing them together also means one review, one submission and one collection, with no risk of one document taking a different route or carrying a different date from the rest.
