Healthcare & licensing
The Medical Board and allied boards require a fingerprint Live Scan for licensing and renewal; many facilities also require an employer-level check before a clinical hire begins.
Senior care, adult day care & caregivers
Staff serving seniors, adult day programs, and in-home clients clear a Community Care Licensing check (Health & Safety Code §1522) by fingerprint.
Childcare & schools
Childcare staff are screened under Community Care Licensing / TrustLine (§1596.871); school staff under the Education Code.
Nonprofits, churches & youth orgs (AB 506)
AB 506 (§18975) requires a fingerprint Live Scan for administrators, employees, and regular volunteers — a name-based check won’t qualify.

How do we set up employer Live Scan with one monthly invoice?
Tell us your organization and applicant volume. We exchange a W-9 and a short services agreement and configure your ORI and net-30 billing, usually the same week. Applicants are processed under the organization account, so staff and volunteers never pay at the counter and there are no reimbursements to chase.
Does a name-based background check satisfy AB 506, or do we need Live Scan?
AB 506, codified at Business and Professions Code §18975, requires a fingerprint-based Live Scan check under Penal Code §11105.3 for administrators, employees, and regular volunteers of youth-serving organizations. A name-only or database check does not meet the standard, and a Live Scan is not transferable between organizations.
Can someone come onsite and fingerprint our whole team?
Yes. We send a certified fingerprint technician with DOJ-certified equipment to your office, school, clinic, or church across Northern California — for groups from as few as five people up to several hundred. Rush and emergency dispatch is available when a deadline is tight.
What background check does California require for healthcare, childcare, or senior-care hires?
Most are fingerprint Live Scan. The Medical Board of California requires fingerprint Live Scan for licensing and renewal; childcare, senior care, adult day care, and caregiver roles clear a Community Care Licensing check (Health & Safety Code §1522 and §1596.871). We confirm the exact requirement for your role before the visit.
How fast can an FBI background check come back for a new hire?
Channeler-network FBI results often return in as little as 1–4 hours, and we submit DOJ prints the same day. Actual turnaround depends on fingerprint quality and record complexity, so results timing is set by the DOJ and FBI rather than guaranteed by us — but most employer submissions move quickly.

What’s the difference between Live Scan and FD-258 ink cards?
Live Scan captures prints electronically and transmits them to the California DOJ and FBI — the standard for in-state employment and licensing. FD-258 ink cards are physical cards for out-of-state, federal, and international submissions that don’t accept electronic Live Scan, including for California nurses licensing in another state. We provide both, often in the same visit.
Do we need a Request for Live Scan form (BCIA 8016) for our team?
Yes. Each applicant is submitted on a Request for Live Scan Service form (BCIA 8016) that lists the requesting agency’s ORI and the correct applicant type. If your organization is registered with the DOJ as a requesting agency, we submit under your ORI; if you’re not yet registered, we help you identify the right form and code before the visit so submissions aren’t rejected.
